Hey everyone! Here's this week's motivational question. Good luck!

What have you learned about yourself this challenge? What can you take with you after this challenge has concluded?

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
I've learned consistancy. I haven't gained, nor have I lost more than a few lbs while on this, but I am going in the downward direction and it has taught me what I like about myself and how I can be part of a fun group all striving for good!

Caring, Strong, Self-Motivator and Determined. I've learned that I'm all of the above from this challenge and it means more to me than hearing it from a friend. Why? Because I'm in control of what I decide to do with my health. Caring because I care more about my health. I know I would have heard the words Diabetic or High Blood Pressure and more if I had not made the necessary changes to my way of eating. Strong because I'm more than capable of working out and I've pushed myself beyond the 2 to 3 times a week workout. I've also accomplished walking 5 miles! YES!! I've purchased a pedometer so that I can track my steps each day. Yet another thing I'll walk away with from this challenge. Self-Motivator? Oh yeah...I'M MOTIVATED! Thanks to this challenge I've made new buddies and as a team we've motivated each other. I've learned that with a team we can do much more. Also regardless to what the scales may show I'm motivated to give my all each week. The challenge helped me to see with several mini-challenges that I can motivate myself to acheive a workout goal. As a result of the success I've had with the mini-challenges I will continue to implement them. I love mini-challenges because they are easy and obtainable. Thanks to my fellow ATHENA buddies for helping me when I needed an extra push. As for Determination, I've learned that I'm more than determined to reach my goals. I approached this challenge with determination and energy and after the challenge I will continue down that path. Something else I will take with me after this challenge will be CREATIVITY. The more creative I can be with my exercises the more I will look forward to completing them. And so far so I'm ecstatic! :)

Hmm what have i learned about myself this challange: I have learned that I am capable of doing more things than I had ever thought I could do. I was always the type of person who made up excuses for things that seemed hard for me. I was a couch potato for the longest time and when I started this challange, I was motivated to do more than I ever thought I could such as all the walking im doing and hitting the gym on a regular basis, creating optional workouts when unable to get to the gym, my self confidence has grown so much that I feel really good about myself where I hadnt before. No more self pity, only moving on doing more and keeping up the work ive been doing.

What can you take with you after this challenge has concluded:

The knowledge that I am somebody and that I can do what ever I put my mind to. No more what-ifs for me, this challange has taught me the "I Can" attitude. If I have an obsticle, i work around it no more saying its not do-able. What I take with me is Self Confidence and Self Respect.

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
I've learned that i can Motivate and be motivated. That i can make friends and be a friend. i can encourage and be encouraged. I can be negative or i can be positive but what this challange has helped me with the most is it moves me to the positive side. I watch others succeed and push through and so i know if they can then i can. I have learned the value of TEAM and we here at ATHENA have been just that a TEAM. T- is for Trying E- is for Encouraging A- is for Amp up your workout M- is for Management.

I have learned that when i try i can. Encouragement is a good positive motivator, Amping up the workout means i can do way more than i ever dreamed or imagined and see positive results and M means i have developed a new lifestyle that i can manage the rest of my life because its fun and its doable and its healthy. I CAN. You can too. Go team athena and thanks for helping make all this happen

During this challenge I have learned that I have great will power. It has been difficult for me to turn down some of my favorites foods, but I have done so on a daily basis. This had been difficult becuase I live with my cousin who is 6 feet and about 110 lbs. She can eat anything and will not gain weight. So when she orders pizza or fries chicken I simply restrain myself and eat a grilled chicken salad or my favorite lean cuisine flatbread or painini sandwich. I have also learned that I have an unstoppable determination. I am determined to finally lose the weight. I'm determined to continue to be active and add more minutes to my elliptical trainer. I'm up to 30 minutes now. When I began I could barely stay on for 3 minutes. After this challenge has ended, I can take with me all the wonderful people I've met and have been motivated by on team Athena as well as others members on the site. I became motivated just by reading some of the members struggles and stories. One person that motivated me is ShannonKristie. When I read her story I was truly inspired. Her and I are the same height and are trying to reach similar goals. Just seeing the happiness on her face in her feature story after losing 74 lbs let me know that my efforts are worth it and I can reach that goal as well as long as I continue to stay active, motived and look to diet.com for support.

I have learned that I cycle between highs and lows, but with a little support and a lot of determination, I can work through it and get to where I want to go. I have learned that being part of a team is not just about motivating others and supporting them, but also about accepting help from your teammates. I have really enjoyed being a part of this team and getting to know my teammates just a little better.

From this challenge I take away some new friends and an old friend too. I take away the knowledge that I helped my friend gain some self confidence and start to exercise and get healthy. I take the fact that even when things don't happen as quickly as I would like, that I still need to keep my eyes on the prize. I will get there eventually, no matter how slowly I go.

I have actually learned lot about myself this challenge. I've learned that I AM capable of doing this. I've learned that it really is A LOT of work. I've learned that to see results you have to work for it. I've learned to eat healthier. I've learned that I HAVE to exercise....I can't just think about it (that darn persistant procrastinator that I am). And most importantly I have learned that when I am slipping up...I can come here for a soft place to fall. There are so many wonderful people here to motivate, congratulate, give support and a shoulder to lean on when needed. There are so many wonderful experts here that give amazing tips, answer any questions (no matter how silly.) And then there's the great people behind diet.com that make this place just plain awesome. I love it here. I plan on being here long after I reach my goal.

There is so much information that I can take from here and apply to my everyday battle to loose the pounds. I would never have been able to do it without this place!!

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
What have I learned? I learned it's all about me, and you, and everyone else that participates in the weight loss process. What I mean is that no one can magically make me lose weight. The only person who can get me off my butt and exercise...is me. The same thing goes for food. No one is going to stand over my shoulder every day and say "you shouldn't eat that" (although my dad does try on occasion LOL). So even when I've had a long day at work and REALLY don't feel like going to practice or going for a walk or whatever it is...I do it! Same thing goes for eating, I work around the most fattening, sugary items and although we aren't allowed to eat while we are working I could very easily buy some of it for my lunch...but I don't ,I go to the deli and get a salad. I may not have lost much this challenge but I feel better and can do much more than I used to be able to. So what I've learned is to be accountable to myself, and anyone who wants to lose weight needs to be too.

What have I learned through this challenge? I have found out that dreams can come true. I have found out that if you really want something, you can do it. I have been outside, walking, moving, socializing, more than I have ever done in my life. I started to paint ceramics again, after 30 years!!!! It was GREAT. I am diabetic. I am using a lot less insulin in my pump. I had to lower my hourly base rate and it was lasting an extra day before I did that... It is so great to see these changes. I know I was not always on this site as much as I should, but on the other side of the coin I was not here because I was outside & moving & being active. I have come to terms with myself from working on this website. I am not a bad person. I am not studid. Some people in the past have made me feel foolish and stupid to lift up their own ego. They have more of a problem than I do. It took looking into my soul and coming to terms with who I am to realize that. One thing that I have learned from this website and from this challenge is that I have friends here. I think everyone should realize the comradarie that we have created within this. I think everyone does realize hurdles we have overcome and dreams that come true.

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
What have you learned about yourself this challenge? What can you take with you after this challenge has concluded?

I've learned that 9 weeks is a long time for me. It's enough time to be on top of the world at day one of the challenge and run through the cycle of motivation to be grasping at threads to hold on by day 63. I've learned it's enough time to go from perfection in daily eating, tracking and exercise to becoming comfortable enough to think that I can do this without the consistancy that comes with being on this website daily. I've learned that my personality test pegged me right on the button and that I can slip back into bad habits as a swing eater and an all or nothing exerciser in 9 weeks.

I realize this doesn't sound like the motivational answer that anyone is looking for from a person who was lucky enough to take part in this challenge from day one. But, this is something I've learned about me. I can't turn my back for one second because my personality, my nature, is waiting to sabotage me at any minute and I still have a lot of learning to do.

I've been fortunate enough to maintain the past couple of weeks but it wasn't doing things the right way. I started skipping meals again and have allowed my work and other things to take over my life that I should be devoting to my health.

More in moderation is what I'm taking with me along with the support of a great group of ladies. Moderation in eating, moderation in exercise and moderation in spending time on this website. I can't allow one to take away from another.

I look forward to continued support and friendship on the blogs and in the groups outside of this challenge.

Thank you team Athena for being there for me.

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
I have learned that I can pull together and pick myself up when I get off track. I've had a lot of trouble since I started losing weight, and it's definitely been a rocky path, but it's up to me to smooth that path out.

This challenge has forced me to "get back in the game" and re-evaluate what I've been doing. Although I've gone up and down a few pounds and haven't lost like I had hoped to, I've made some great friends and learned a lot about what I'm capable of. Being on a "all-star team" has been great, and the people on my team have been so awesome! I feel honored to have participated with such a great team and to have been chosen in the first place to do so. Everyone accepts each other, whether we lose weight or not, and we're always there with words of encouragement. I feel like we have a great bond and have really pulled together!

I've learned that it's not just about losing weight. Even though I feel like I've let my team down as far as my overall weighloss during the challenge, on the other hand, I feel like I've made up for it with my participation and "teamwork". It isn't about just me, but my teammates as well. With their tips and encouragement, I have really started to get into a routine that I've been able to stick with instead of making excuses not to work out or eat well. It hasn't been easy, but with the help of my team, I feel like I can do it!

With what I've learned, I know that I won't give up until the weight has come off, no matter how long it takes! I have to make this committment to myself and follow through so that I can live a happier and healthier lifestyle. Thanks team Athena for being such an awesome group of ladies! You guys rock! And of course, thanks to diet.com for giving us such an awesome challenge. It gives us that extra boost we need to keep going with our goals! I hope to participate in another one real soon!

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
I’ve learned so many things about myself from this challenge. I don’t have to eat cake because everyone else is; and if I do eat cake that doesn’t mean all my hard work has been ruined or give me a free pass to consume everything in sight! If I don’t get my cardio done early in the day it leads to procrastination and usually doesn’t get done, even though my intentions are good. Mini goals work for me and are an easy way for me to change a bad habit or complete my workouts. The scale isn’t always an accurate way to measure my progress, measurements are just as important as is the way my clothes fit or don’t fit!!! Negative thinking is detrimental to my emotional well being; positive thoughts lead to my success. I’ve learned how to forgive myself for my mistakes. I've learned to love myself and treat myself good no matter what my size. These are the things I will take away from the challenge; the healthy habit of using a pedometer to make sure I am being active; setting mini-goals for my workouts and to defeat bad habits; the importance of getting enough sleep for my energy and stress levels; to be creative in my workouts to reduce boredom and to get outside in the fresh air and be active! I think the most important thing I’ve learned and will take away is that I don’t have to do this alone; I have a fantastic support system of friends here who will accept me no matter what size I am or what state of mind I’m in.

RE: Post your Week 9 Motivational Question Response here!
During this challenge I realized that the most important step, in this challenge, and in any weight loss goal as a whole, is the motion to keep going on, no matter what!! Whether or not I was losing weight or not during this challenge, I had to keep pushing because it almost felt like I had an obligation to my teammates, and to myself to continue to participate in the challenge. I didn't want to let anyone down by not checking in at least once a week, and by doing so I held myself accountable for the most part. Had it not been for the need to check in, or at least log my foods, and write in my journal (for points or not), I really feel as though I would have completely fell of the wagon in times when I wasn't strong enough to hold myself up. I didn't anywhere near my goal wegiht during this challenge, nor did I gain ;) but after venting, my buddies on this site helped me see that sometimes even after you change some things up in your routine, you need to create a lifestyle that you can follow for-ever, and that it's not all about the weight lost, or winning a challenge per se, it's getting yourself accustomed to a new way of healthy living, proper nutrition and lots of heart healthy exercise! I've learned how to live my life without letting my weight control who I am!

What have I learned about myself this challenge? I have learned how not to be on a diet. I have learned how to live a totally new lifestyle. The word diet is temporary and this is not who I am anymore. I have learned to make better choices, and in doing that I now make better choices with out even thinking about it. I have learned that it is okay to treat yourself to a sweet or salty treat here and there, but it is not okay to eat the entire bag, LOL! I have learded that I do need support and I can not do this on my own, thanks to all the wonderful people I met on diet.com help is only a click away! I also have come accustom to blogging my feelings out, instead of eating them ! I have learned to be myself. And it doesnt matter what number your size is, what matters is that you are as healthy and active as you can be. I plan to take what I have learned and use it in my everday life. I hope that my children will pick up on this life style and carry it with them through adulthood as well. I could not truly express how nice it is to have a place where everyone is here for the same reason. I thank you for this challenge and changing my life, from an unhealthy nighttime nibbler to a healther eater and active Mom!

What have you learned about yourself this challenge? I have learned that I DO have it in me to get healthy! I have also learned that I need to stay focused and active to do it! I have also learned that I actually have had fun doing it instead of the dread I always used to feel.

What can you take with you after this challenge has concluded? The biggest thing I will take with me after this challenge is all of the people I have met here along the way! Whether they are on team ATHENA or not, they have all helped me along the way. I have learned that its easier to lose weight if you have support from your family and friends as well as from a group that is in the same boat as you are. There have been quite a few things that I never could ask my friends because they are not in the same weight situation I am in. I asked people on here and come to find out they had some great advice because they have been or are at the same point I am. Doing this challenge and being active on this site has been one of the biggest reasons I am still sticking with things!

Oh what I've learned...

The thought of exercise, Oh, such a drag. The team picked me up, No one will lag!

Five minutes on the treadmill It quickly turns to ten. 10,000 steps a day?!?! Hell yeah, I can!

Doubts in the air, Didn't think we could do it, Friendships formed, And we pulled each other through it!

Jumping through puddles, Running through fountains, Dancing in the kitchen, On this team we move mountains!

Go team Athena! Only on the team for 2 weeks, If only I found it sooner, More pounds would have leaked!

Thank you team Athena! You ladies are great! You taught me not to give up, To get healthy, it's never too late!
